“Dzien Ziemi” (Earth Day)

We spent Sunday out and about again, this time in Pola Mokotowskie at the “Earth Day” festival. The notion was conceived by the United Nations in response to the degradation of the natural environment in 1970 and has been celebrated in Poland since 1990.  The advert in the Polish media said:

“Grazyna Hodun, coordinator of Earth Day events, promises lots of attractions. There will be a concert of folk songs and a collection of obsolete electronic equipment.”

How could we resist? Lots of brightly coloured tents displaying all kinds of environment related (and obsolete) stuff. There were hordes of people present along with pushchairs, on roller-blades or with scooters, many trailing some sort of small furry animal on a rope. One lady even had a ferret down her brassiere! It didn’t look comfortable and there didn’t really look like there was enough room for it anyway!

Spent about 20 minutes walking round, before deciding that the best place to be on such a nice day was in the beer garden of Lolek. Off we all trotted there to consume a kiełbasa i piwo in the sun. Much better.

Here’s my friend Greg enjoying the Polish sun and doing what he does best. Na zdrowie!
